"My CBT experience"

About: City Health Care Partnership CIC / Primary psychological and wellbeing services

(as the patient),

I was asked to write this as though to someone about to start thir therapy that perhaps wasn't sure.

First of all, it needs to be the correct time for you to go. If you aren't ready for the changes, this won't work. That's not a criticism, that's just the truth. I underwent CBT a few years back and it wasn't effective, but I think that was down to me.

This time, however I was, and as such, with Adam's help I was able to get the most out of the therapy.

The beauty of this is that the therapist guides your own thought process and shows you ways to manage situations. Just the nature of life means that problems won't disappear, but with the therapist's help you can manage your own reactions to it.

If you have been referred to CBT but are in two minds, go for at least one session, reflect upon that session, go to a second and discuss your thoughts. If at that point you both agree it isn't working for you, look in to other options.

I for one found it very helpful and well worth attending, so would thank Adam that helped me to manage matters with more perspective.
