"Thanks to Ninewells hospital Ward 23 staff"

About: Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I was admitted for spinal surgery and have to say that I was given a very high standard of care. There was one member of night staff who didn't seem to know how to help me get in and out of bed in an appropriate manner following surgery. But the rest of the staff treated me with respect, listened to my concerns and were very supportive. Nobody wants to go into hospital; it's a frightening prospect, particularly when you know that surgery is the only option.

My Consultant was professional but with a good bedside manner and no God Complex, which is another important factor. A big thank you must also go to the Anaesthetist and his team for keeping me safe. The ward staff are always busy and beds are scarce but you are never made to feel like a burden or left without care. This is a good team and I am very grateful to them for the standard of care I received.

Dear "Astiforme"

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Patient Opinion. I am delighted that the care you received as a patient in Ward 23b, Ninewells Hospital was of a very high standard. Surgery can indeed be a frightening prospect for patients and it is good to know that you found the staff to be professional and supportive. I will certainly ensure your comments and thanks are shared with them.

I note that there was one member of night staff who didn’t seem to know how to help you get in and out of bed in an appropriate manner following surgery. The Senior Charge Nurse would like to apologise that this was your experience. She has advised me that all staff, as part of their induction, spend a period of time with the physiotherapy team to support their knowledge around this area of patient care and she will take the opportunity to discuss your experience with her Team to identify any additional training needs.

I hope you are recovering well from your surgery and thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience.

Kind regards.

Alison Moss
