My eighty four year old husband was referred here for cataracts .

We met with a specialist who told him that he would need an operation.

After a long wait of around ten weeks he was admitted for the operation. Nobody told my husband what it would entail. We were given no information whatsoever apart from the fact that he would need to use eye drops on a daily basis for around six weeks after the op.When the eye drops were finished I contacted our G.P.for a prescription for another supply.I was unable to request any as my husband hadn't been given a discharge letter from the staff on duty on the day of the operation so of course our doctor knew nothing about the op ..Cue frantic phone calls from myself to Opthalmic Dept asking them to ring or email our G.P.

Now we await an appointment for the other eye to be done. Well at least through experience we now know what to expect. You can't rely on the staff to tell you anything!

When my husband went for his two week check up he was told he'd need to see a specialist as there was ' something else wrong' with his eyes.

Totally ambiguous statement as is usual for this dept.No other information as always.
