People today seem to be very quick to find fault with a service but at the end of the day if you are unlucky enough to find yourself in a position needing medical intervention, it's not something you can do yourself.

I understand the fear some people have about operatons and anxious about the outcome but that is no excuse for patients being ignorant to the staff.

If you think of the cost of running a hospital and staffing it etc you wouldn't want to put your hand in your pocket to pay for all the expensive treatment, expertise, facilities and much more for your treatment, more likely, you would probably find your life falling apart through lack of medical treatment.

These people are there to help us for free on the day we we need them so be nice, they are there to do a job and in my recent visit they do it well, don't whine at them, appreciate them, help them when necessary, they are just ordinary people like us doing a skilled job that makes a difference. Cherrish them and they will return you to a life you can live. They are not miracle workers and sometimes our ailments are beyond current medical knowledge so keep your expectations realistic.

It would be nice to get an appointment, get to the hospital and be seen on the dot of that appointment but be realistice about that too, life is a long and winding road and from what I saw durning my stay, a day in the life of hospital staff is a long and winding road too. Sometimes they have to put the brakes on to help someone worse off that we are. Oh look !! a traffic jam..... never seen one of those before. Don't whine, just wait, go and ask a question nicely and wait your turn. Be grateful this service is available to us.

When you get your appointment clear your day, take that pressure away from yourself, be prepared for a wait and it won't be so bad. We are patients, they are staff and we both are pawn in a massive system, like any machine sometimes it breaks down we all have to deal with things like that in our life probably every day. Don't hurt the people you want to help you. They will still help you ( how they manage to do that I will never know) but being nice to the staff is much better for them and much better for us in the long run because stress caused by people getting angry makes for an exhausting day for everyone.

I had two stays in J3 recently, there was a lot of waiting but the cancer in my nose would have eventually killed me so I just sit there and wait my turn. When I arrived early in the morning the ward was full to bursting on both occasions, like waiting to board a plane, just soo many people wanting help.

My ENT surgeon and anaesthetist along with the surgical team and ward staff were all fantastic and the staff in the ward didn't stop working and did it with a huge smile, I think that's incredible.

My cancer has gone. Pathology results, no cancer cells present. Three days out of my life has given me years of life ahead. Be nice to the staff.
