"Delays on discharge"

About: Tameside General Hospital / General surgery

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. They said...

This lady has been waiting 3 hours for a prescription for her husband who has been a day patient who had to stay in overnight. She spent 4 hours here yesterday as he was supposed to be coming out.

She lives in Oldham but chose to come to Tameside for her husband’s hernia operation.

It is now 2. 10pm and she has been at the hospital since 8. 30am when she was told to collect her husband.

(As the Healthwatch Champion finished the paperwork the lady and her husband were leaving the hospital, at 2. 15pm).

We are sorry you have had to raise this with healthwatch but without the specific details it is difficult to comment why you had to wait such a long time.

Waits in areas such as this can be caused for various different reasons depending on what the overnight stay was for. The staff should have kept you updated and informed.

I will pass on the these comments to the department to ensure they communicate with patients and relatives.
