Firstly I would like to start by saying I am myself about patient of Pinderfields and i have had the best care from the specialists and nurses in the last 3 years however last night my dad wasn't well and I called 111 for advise they decided to send an ambulance to check on him and they took him to Pinderfields a and e as they are not allowed to take him to Pontefract ( which is a lot closer) after 8.30pm even thought it is a 24 hour service
We arrived at a and e and the paramedics where brilliant helpful and put dad at ease checked us in and handed him over we then waiting in a corridor for 50 minutes to be seen I which time I witnessed numberous members of staff doctors and nurses behind the nurse station laughing and joking quite loudly and not seeing many patients
There seemed to be a lack of rooms available as they where's walking around trying to find an empty room
After 50 minute a triage nurse came over and took us to a room asked dad few questions they gave him pain killers at no point did they check over what was wrong with dad (which is what I thought the point of a triage was) and placed him in the waiting room saying could be a good few hours wait
After an 1 and half I asked a nurse how much longer it would be and they said there is one person in front of you which then took another hour to be seen the junior doctor came out (one of the staff that was laughing earlier and in not particular hurry) took him into another room and finally looked over him we where in the room just a few minute and told we could go home just to wait for the prescription after 4 hours we finally left the hospital
My dad is diabetic which we made very clear no one once mentioned it or checked his sugar level
I also found disturbing the amount of baby's that where there waiting for hours as the baby a and e was closed
"Terrible a and e department"
