"Burst Catheter Bag"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a friend),

My friend who has no close family is in the care of Ward 44 following a stroke. When the staff have been told that their catheter bag is quite full and in urgent need of changing no action has been taken and the bag has subsequently burst. This has not been an isolated incident.

Response from Philip Dylak, Director of Nursing, Tameside Hospital Foundation Trust

I quite agree that this is “not good enough”, and can see no reason why staff would not have emptied the catheter bag.

Given that you say this is not an isolated incident, I will be asking the Matron and Senior Nurse Manager to address this without delay.

Thank you for raising this point
