i visited my elderly aunt today 06/12/15 on ward 8 i was upset to find her in a state of undress parts of her body were exposed to the rest of the ward i adjusted her robe to cover her body that was on view , i straightened the sheet to cover the lower half of her body , a H-C gave an apology , my aunt said she wanted to pass urine and i told the member of staff ( she said she had a catheter) i could not see a catheter i asked auntie and she said have a look under the sheet i found the catheter and my aunt was sitting on it i straightened it out and the urine began to flow into the bag the urine was of a dark colour -my aunt was admitted because she had a U-T-I and was confused had been treated for this but the confusion remained the nurse advised they did not know the reason why , i asked my aunt if she wanted a drink of water she said yes , there was no jug of water beside her bed only a full plastic disposable beaker which she could not reach , i obtained a straw and my aunt drunk 4 beakers full , if she had managed to reach the beaker she would have held it to tight her jug and beaker was over the other side of the room and she surely needs to be enabled to drink plenty given the reason she was admitted - i assisted the staff by feeding her with some lunch she needed a lot of encouragement the staff then asked if i could give her her pills as she was refusing them , i asked her why she was refusing them she said they just put them in a pot and i cant see what i am taking and i know i take 4 so i showed her each tablet and she took them so you can see the reasons that i am upset by the visit .my aunt became more alert and responsive after having food and water .
