"Marvellous midwives"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to the team of midwives who delivered my 3rd baby boy on 4 December.

Linda (miracle midwife) has delivered all 3 of my babies over a 4 year period, and I am forever indebted to her for getting me through each labour. She is the most supportive, caring & encouraging lady. I was particularly worried about my 3rd labour after a slightly traumatic 2nd birth but Linda was there for me, at my beck and call. Not only is she highly experienced, confident & knowledgable so you feel in the safest hands, but she guides you through each stage of labour as it comes so you know where you're at & what to expect, which made the experience less daunting for me, she also comforted me throughout my holding my hand, rubbing my back & generally being calming & soothing. She went the extra mile for me by being there for me upon my request, staying late & helping me to establish feeding with my baby.

Also, it's worth noting that she gave me sound advice on pain relief & birthing plan to avoid forceps which I was particularly fearful of. And I can say that I've had 3 babies & having required one single stitch. I am forever grateful to her & can't wait to tell my 3 boys when they grow up that they were all delivered by the same miracle midwife.

Special thanks also to Esmee, who was in training during my labour. Not only was she very knowledgeable (I would have never known she was in training) but her bright spirit & distraction techniques really made my experience pleasant & upbeat.

Also, Karen looked after me in the early stages & was wonderful too. Warm & kind & professional & chatty. I had to have a controlled ARM which she performed alongside a lovely South African doctor, and Karen made me feel at ease & was very reassuring at a worrying time. She was also very gentle whilst performing the procedure. Furthermore, she came to check on me at the end which made me feel as though she really cared & it wasn't just another baby she helped to deliver.

All in all, the dream team!

Almost worth considering having a 4th for....maybe not! : -)

We are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to give us your feedback about your recent experiences. We will endeavour to make Linda and Esmee aware of your comments and I'm sure they will be delighted to hear that they have made such a positive difference for you.

We are proud of the commitment and dedication our staff show and they work extremely hard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide the best possible care for patients across the whole of NHS Grampian.

Following your post, we would be keen to share your story and experience with the wider public as an example of the service provided by local midwives. That would, of course, be entirely your decision and we would not do anything without your express permission.

We appreciate that everyone’s circumstances are different and that is not something everyone would be keen to do so we completely understand if you aren’t interested.

If, however, you are or have any questions, could I ask that you contact Mike at the NHS Grampian Corporate Communications team who will be happy to discuss it with you? He can be contact via email grampian@nhs.net or by calling 01224 558996.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback and best wishes to you and your new baby.
