"Dundee Dental Hospital Reception Staff"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital

(as a relative),

Was told my dentist in November that my wisdom teeth were impacted and a referral would be sent to DDH. Having heard nothing and my course of antibiotics finished over 2 before I could not stand the pain any longer.

I turned up and explained the situation to which a very rude receptionist advised me there was nothing they could do for me and there were "other more serious patients needing to be seen".

She asked her supervisor who explained it was my dentists "duty of care" to look after me until my appointment came through the post and I could not be seen as I am not a patient there! ?

I was under the impression this was an emergency dental hospital and to be turned away in such a manner has left me very dissapointed.

I only hope I get referred to another friendlier hospital when my long awaited appointment comes through. In the meantime I will just have to suffer the pain

I am really sorry to hear about your experience at Dundee Dental Hospital.

As a patient registered with a dentist, your dentist is responsible for providing routine dental care and any emergency dental care you may require. Dundee Dental Hospital does provide an emergency dental service. This is only available to patients who are not registered with a dentist.

You are likely to have been referred to Dundee Dental Hospital by your dentist to be assessed by a specialist member of the team. This could not be provided within the emergency dental clinic.

If you would like us to review the status of your current referral, please contact me on 01382 635951.

Please accept my apologies once again for your experience.

Regards

Joanne Cameron, Clinical Services Manager, Integrated Dental Services

Hello Joanne

Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated.

I think with this pain I'm feeling and having not slept for 4 days I was in no mood to approach a rude member of reception staff.....in your profession and with patients suffering a great deal a friendly face goes a very long way, not a miserable face with a bad attitude on the front line.

I received my referral letter today I can only hope an appointment comes in quickly as I don't know how much more I can take and having recently suffered a much I stroke this is the last thing one needs.
