"Hospital appt"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

Mum visited consultant who said she needed colonoscopy but because of her kidney function she would need to be in hospital while having the sachets to avoid dehydration so would be put on a drip. A letter arrived telling her to go in at 2pm. When she arrived no one seemed aware of her visit, there was no bed and she was in a chair for the first few hours with no sachet given which was worrying as procedure was for the morning. She was not put on a ward for ages and then she was not given any drip. I thought there was no point in her over night stay in hospital as she wasn't given any extra fluids and may as well have stayed in the comfort of her own home.

Dear b beck,

Thank you for the feedback you have left on the Patient Opinion website regarding your mother’s recent visit to Grantham Hospital.

I’m sorry that, on this occasion, things did not go smoothly. I hope you will accept my sincere apologies.

I would like to review your mother’s episode of care with the teams involved but to do so would need a bit more information from you.

If you would be so kind as to ring me on 01476 464560, or contact me by e-mail at Sharon.kidd@ulh.nhs.uk if you prefer, I can take your mother’s name and date of her visit and look at what went wrong this time.

Hopefully we can then learn from this incident and ensure that, should your mother have to visit us again she does not suffer the same inconvenience.

Once again, please accept my apologies and I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Best regards,

Sharon Kidd, Patient Experience Manager
