"SOME of the nursing care was good. ..."

About: Northwick Park Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

SOME of the nursing care was good. A lot of it was bad. The worst part was a little jumped-up nurse who refused to step into the room where my mother was profusely bleeding inexplicably. The reason she refused to help was "because there was another nurse already in that ward". I said that other nurse was tending to another patient, meanwhile my mother's bleeding. She merely shrugged. That's isn't "care", that's ignorance, bolshiness and pigheadedness.

What could be improved

Improvements could be made in several nursing areas - e.g. having nurses that don't speak in such heavily accented English that they may as well be speaking in a foreign language; employ more nursing staff who actually appear to "care"; Have a more efficient system so that the blood taken from an 84-year-old lady for tests, is not lost - TWICE!

Anything else?

Thank God for the Private Sector. Firstly it provides "care", rather than the slapdash inefficiency experienced at Northwick Park. Secondly, it takes a lot of pressure away from the NHS since, without the Private sector, the NHS would be even MORE inefficient than it already is.

Perhaps reduce the ratio of "line managers to patients" down from something like 9:1!

Stop paying bonuses to heads of NHS Trusts when that money could be better spent of saving lives.

Thank you for your comment and I would firstly like to apologise for the delay in acknowledging your comments.

I am sorry that your experience of the Trust was not a positive one. I would like to assure you that the Trust is committed to providing care of a high standard and I am very disappointed that your mother was refused help when she was bleeding and that blood samples were lost, as this is not the standard of care we expect to be provided.

If you would like any of your concerns investigated further please contcat the Patient Relations Office on 0208 869 2026.

Kind regards

Ann Curry

Patient Liaison Manager
