"Facilities"

About: Park Rehabilitation Centre

(as the patient),

I attended Park Rehabilitation Centre from December 08 to May 09 following a knee injury. During this time I was seen by several physiotherapists and all were caring people. My therapy also included hydratherapy and sessions in the gym. My one criticism of the centre would be the poor changing room facilities. Although I saw cleaners busy in this area almost every time I visited, the female changing room always seemed to smell of urine. Also the plastic garden chairs that were stacked up for use by patients were inadequate for people who had limited mobility and who were understandably nervous following accidents. I never felt able to use the showers following hydratherapy sessions as that area looked antiquated and unhygienic. I hope the facilities have been updated since I attended so that other patients may feel more comforatble when in this area. If it hasn't then hopefully patients will be consulted when improvements are made.

I support the organisation in making sure that the voice of patients and the public is heard and used in planning services. This involves running events, managing surveys, and building networks with the local community.

Thanks for your response.

I have asked for some information on this service, and have been given the following information by the service manager.

“I’m sorry you felt the changing facilities at the Park Rehabilitation Centre did not meet your expectations. The ladies changing room is cleaned regularly and should faults be identified they are dealt with promptly by the Trust Estates Department. I have not previously been made aware of a smell in the changing room but this will be investigated. There is a cubicle with hand rails in the changing room for people who require additional support and an additional room available for patients who require the assistance of a carer when getting changed for a pool session. Could I reassure you that when purchasing furniture for any area in the Centre we ensure that it is fit for purpose. I appreciate any feedback regarding the Centre as it helps in planning improvements and developments and thank you for taking the time to forward your comments.”

I hope this answers your queries, I would also urge you to stay in touch with us, and take part in any future consultations on this, and other health services.
