"My Dad's experience"

About: Queen's Medical Centre

Firstly, I would like to say that both my Son and my Mother have been admitted to the QMC from A&E this year.

Both had excellent experiences with superb care/treatment.

The care of my 11 year old son was very good!

On Friday 13th November my Father was admitted to ward C31 after going to A&E with suspected Pancreatitis.

The care of my Father was not of the same quality.

I can't speak from his first hand perspective but do know he suffered unnecessary stress.

My Father was due to have a scan but when he got down there he was told it had been cancelled.

After returning to the ward my Father was told he would go down later for this scan.

Of course he could not eat anything or be treated whilst waiting!

My father did not get the scan because they finished at 12pm for the day!

We only found this out when we questioned again about the scan at approx. 4.30pm. We were told that all the problems were due to Doctors not working weekends only for theatre. The next day my father did have his scan but then they said he needed to move on to another part of the ward due to bed shortage. This was not a problem but they did not take all his belongings and were argumentative with my Father saying he had all his clothes etc. when in fact they had left some in the side room.

This move was at 7.30pm on Sunday evening.

A member of staff then came at 9.30 ish and told him he needed to move again!

My Father said he wouldn't move again at that time of night.

The member of staff was again rude and argued with my Father.

I don't feel human beings should be treated like traffic and with such little courtesy.

I hope that my comments help to highlight areas of improvement needed and perhaps where cut backs should not be made.
