"My Mums road traffic accident"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

A week ago tomorrow, my Mum was knocked over by a car. This resulted in her being taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. It was soon confirmed she had broken her ankle in 2 places and needed to have metal plates inserted.

She was put on the Day Care Unit. Where she still is, her operation has been cancelled! Yet again. Every day it has been promised, every day it has been cancelled.

She is elderly. She has previously been very active but as a family we have no idea now what her prospects are for her physical and mental well being after this terrible ordeal.

Oh apparently it's going ahead tomorrow, hopefully?

We are very sorry that your mother has had to wait such a prolonged time for her ankle surgery. This has now been escalated to the Head of Nursing who will liaise with the trauma team to ensure an explanation is given to your mother for the reason behind the delays and to ensure the surgery goes ahead in the next 24 hours. The only other delaying factor can be related to the swelling around the lower limb and this should also be explained to your mother.
