"Addaction Leamington Spa"

About: Addaction

(as the patient),

I went to Addaction to have a detox for alcohol. Although having told them that I had had a stroke last year, whilst in hospital they had to detox me because I became jaundiced (physically went yellow) and almost died, the state of my liver became critical. I am under the care of the local hospital hepatologist (which they new of him by name), should not be drinking at all and take eight prescription meds a day.

I begged them to offer me a detox quickly, which they refused, saying that I needed to go through health checks, group therapy and several sessions first and then maybe in two to three months they would offer me a detox. I explained that three months more drinking might kill me and to ring my GP and hepatologist to get first hand information of my health, I even explained that I have a hospital dietician because my liver does not metabolise food like a normal person. In hospital I was having blood tests every three days (LFT).

It was like talking to a brick wall, they do something a particular way, a one size fits all process and will bash a square peg into a round hole even if that means breaking it. I needed help, they are the people the NHS direct you to, they should have helped me, listened to me and called the people who had been monitoring me for the last year. Instead they let me down.
