"Kept in the dark and treated like a mushroom"

GWH should be an example of what a modern hospital can be. But instead it appears to me to be a catastrophe .

I was diagnosed as having a cancerous growth in my right kidney so the kidney had to be removed. My consultant was marvellous no complaints whatsoever. In on the 29th October for what the Consultant told me was a Major Operation.

Operation duly carried out after a 4 hour plus op .

Taken from the theater to the High Dependency unit. All the time I was in there until my release on the Tuesday \I was totally groggy , really not compos mentis

Can remember just a lot of noise on Halloween way to much for a high dependency unit.

Following my op I can only just remember the food being abysmal inedible! I know I was groggy but the nurses didnt want to know. Only one helped me. Nothing was too much trouble for this person.

What ever happened to the good old days of PMH? Food was edible, nurses were helpful and treated you well today you are treated as if you are just in their way of doing something else.

Oh for the good old days when we had matrons everything ran smoothly then. Matrons, Sisters, Staff Nurses etc and all looking and acting like professionals.

The sooner they get rid of all the administrators and bring back he old way of doing things the better for the NHS.. The consultants know what to do and they then get things done because they know what they are doing and why they are doing it. And god help anyone who played the fool in front of matron.

Its not rocket science it just good common sense, an item that seems in very short supply today..

I Am in awe of the Surgeons and doctors who know what they are doing, people like my Consultant. But by the same token there seem to be a lot of"Time Servers" just working their way to retirement and this seems to apply in general throughout the hospital.

But the thing that really got to me even though I was groggy was the fact that nobody came and told you what was going on.

It was just like you were a nuisance and the sooner you went home the better.

No Info no advice very little help and even less care.

These then are my thoughts on GWH and I suppose the NHS in general
