"Don't be afraid of Dentistry"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

I visited the Oral & Maxillofacial Outpatients dept. for an extraction and was amazed at how friendly and professional everyone was. I was talked with (not at) , made to feel an equal, and the extraction took maybe half a minute. The room was light and airy. I admit my treatment was straightforward and my main reason for going there was that other medical problems could have made things difficult.

To the caring dentist to the nurse who kept my mind off things by chatting to me and the member of staff in the recovery room who made sure I was fine before leaving and took me back to my husband in the waiting room I'd like to say a huge thank you. You were all very much appreciated.

I only gave the hospital 4 stars because of access. As everyone knows the parking position is terrible so we took a taxi but I don't walk very well and of course there were no wheelchairs to be seen. Luckily my husband had brought a small stool as I could not have walked non stop to the Dept. Would it not be possible to put some fixed chairs at intervals? I've seen these at other medical centres and I can't be the only one who can't walk long distances non-stop.

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. I have shared your feedback with our max-fax team.

We are very mindful of the parking and congestion problems patients all too often experience at QMC. Work is underway to address, notably with our staff car parking permit review and travel campaign to encourage more people to use the tram (and public transport) to get to our hospitals, wherever possible, to help relieve congestion.

I am sorry to hear about the poor availability of wheelchairs. We are working with our volunteers and relevant colleagues to resolve this problem and ensure wheelchairs are regularly available at our main entrances for patients and visitors.

Over the last year, in response to feedback from patients, we have invested in additional rest seats on the corridors at many points around the hospital. I accept that this doesn’t help if they are not on the route you are following.

My best wishes to you,

Laura Griffiths, Interim Divisional Nurse, Surgery
