About: Homerton University Hospital

I had my laparoscopy last Thursday. I checked in at 7.30am and was lead straight down to the day unit ward. I was given my gown etc and asked to sit down. They came round did my vitals, then the anaesthetist came to see me then my surgeon saw me. Luckily they said I was second on the list so I didn't have long to wait. The nurses were nice offering me blankets, and let me go to the TV room to kill time. I only waited about 1.5 hours since checking in to go down to theatre. They were really nice to call my Dad as soon as I got in so he could make his way to the hospital.

The anaesthetist was great, they sat talking with me, then they as I was about to go in put in my cannula, put me on the heart monitor etc. Gave me a pre med, put an oxygen mask on my face....that's all I remember!

Woke up feeling like I had the best sleep in the recovery room. Next thing I am lying on a comfy leather recliner in the day unit ward with a blanket....I don't remember going from the bed to the chair! Nurses kept checking on me every 5 mins, giving me water (I kept asking for it I was so thirsty), gave me a sandwich to eat, then gave me packets of pills and bandages to take home. Surgeon saw me to go over the surgery and told me to come back in 3 months for a follow up. Once I went to the loo they said I could get dressed and go home.

I must say the nurses on the day unit are wonderful. Very funny and attentive and caring. They really are under rated in my opinion. I had a bad experience at Queen's Hospital, so I decided to opt for Homerton this time and I am so glad I did! It's as good as paying for private and I do not regret my decision at all! I was treated like an individual, not a number and I was given all my privacy, dignity and respect. Also the hospital is spotlessly clean! Also being a woman's only ward is very reassuring too.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Homerton!!!! They may remember me as the one with the very comfy looking purple slippers.....joke the staff had with me :).
