"It transpired I had been given the wrong leaflet"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

In December, I attended at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, for an endoscopy procedure. In accordance with the leaflet I was sent with my appointment I had fasted for 24 hours prior to the appointment. The nurse attending was, to say the least, most surprised as this was not required.

It transpired I had been given the wrong leaflet.

Needless to say we were both very angry. She, herself, took it up with the Admin Department.

I coped, just, with not eating - the staff were wonderful, making sure I had 2 pieces of toast before I left.

What would the consequences have been if I had been elderly or infirm? ? ! !

Dear Cabo3

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience. Having to go so long without food must have been difficult and I can appreciate the anger felt as a result of a miscommunincation. I am glad you raised this at the time with staff which enabled the issue to be addressed. I know that staff in Endoscopy have been revising patient information recently with the involvement of people who have recently used the Service. I will make sure your post is passed on.

Regards

Louise Ewing
