"My daughter is staying in the ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My daughter is staying in the maternity wing, some of the midwives leave a lot to be desired, some even seem as if they cannot be bothered. There are 2 in particular. Also the quality of the food needs to be looked at.

What could be improved

The food served to the patients needs to be looked at and more variety offered. This is a good hospital and we chose this over the South shields hospital but must say that Harton offers a better quality of food. If the 2 could be combined then this would be the best hospital in tyne and wear

I’d like to thank you for providing feedback on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and our services and for recommending the hospital to others.

We take all concerns raised by patients and their families very seriously and I’ve spoken to colleagues in maternity and catering about the issues you have mentioned.

Our divisional manager for Women’s and Children’s Services has assured me that she takes comments about staff attitude very seriously and that she will cascade this to staff in the maternity department. If you wish to share your particular concerns with us in more detail, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 953 0667.

Our catering department undertakes monthly questionnaires regarding patient satisfaction which have showed general satisfaction with the service. However, the team is constantly striving to make improvements to the 1800 meals which are served to patients in the hospital every day.

I hope you’ve found this response useful and if you would like to discuss this further please don’t hesitate to contact our PALS team. Again I would like to thank you for the very positive scores and for recommending our hospital, despite the concerns you have raised.

Ian Renwick.

Chief Executive of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
