"My daughter was rushed in with a chronic asthma..."

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

I had to rush my daughter in after collecting her from college in a heap with a chronic asthma attack.

I left my car in the car park and ran in with her (we have open access as she has chronic athsma).

When we left I paid for 2 hours in the car park as that's all the money I had on me.

I have since received a parking ticket which is disgusting.

My child could have died should I have detoured home for some money.

I did pay for most of the parking time.

Just disgusting that money comes before lives at this hospital.

I did email about the ticket 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing about from another fine to say I now owe even more money.

Response from Macclesfield District General Hospital

We were very sorry to read your comments. A parking management system is in place at Macclesfield Hospital in order to help ensure the availability of spaces for visitors and motorists who fail to pay the appropriate tariff for their stay may be issued with a parking charge notice (PCN). However, there is a thorough appeals process in place to waive Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) in appropriate circumstances, such as medical emergencies, so we would urge you to appeal straight away via the details on the notice you received.

It is also important to note that payment for parking at Macclesfield Hospital can be made any time until midnight on the day of a visit and can be done by cash, card or by phone. As a result, payment for parking should not delay bringing a patient into the Accident and Emergency Department in an emergency. We hope your daughter is feeling better and you were happy with the care provided by our staff.
