Following my day in hospital yesterday, Tuesday 10th Nov 2015, I would like to say I was treated with the respect any patient would expect to receive. When I was asked if I had had any previous surgery I told the doctor I had had Gender Reassignment Surgery, the doctor looked up and said, "Oh how did that go, are you happy with the result" I responded "yes fine", and they then carried on with the rest of the discussion. I chatted with the other women in the 4 bed room we were in, and when I was discharged late in the evening, they seemed quite disappointed I was leaving them.
I have heard of transwomen having problems with hospital staff and other patients, I don't understand why, if my experience is an example of the staff, doctors, nurses and patients across the NHS.
As a transwoman, or more accurately a woman with a trans history, and also a member of Trafford Healthwatch I was particularly interested in the reception and treatment I received.
