"Oaklands Hospital"

About: Oaklands Hospital

I finally decided to see my GP regarding something that I had been ignoring, and my GP said they really wanted me to be seen by a specialist and would arrange a 2 week referral. As I have access to Private Medical Insurance I chose this route rather than worry for a further few weeks.

I hadn't researched Oakland's in fact its not the closest hospital to where I live but they had a specialist who could see me within a few days and that was important.

I saw the specialist and within a few minutes they were of the same opinion as my GP, and told me I needed urgent biopsies - and sent me downstairs to organise. To say I was shocked was an understatement as I thought the consultant would organise this and was a little upset (this probably was the bit that made me question this process). This is where the Oakland's hospital staff came into their own.

I didn't have a clue what I was doing but the staff were superb they took charge established what was happening and made all the arrangements and back I went two days later.

Again I didn't research any of the professionals as for me I just wanted to be seen quickly.

I met a lovely Surgeon and whilst they didn't take the biopsies as I was expecting, they were very reassuring. The surgeon explained in detail what they wanted to do and arranged for a procedure and booked pre op so back I came a few days later for my pre op.

The member of staff on reception remembered me and said its nice to see you smiling glad you are feeling better about things. The staff at Oakland's subsequently phoned me giving me a date and time for procedure and I received all the relevant info via the post. I arrived for my procedure and the member of staff on the front desk remembered our conversation - I was so impressed I thought these people really do care. Everything was explained to me in detail and the staff were so caring and respectful but also treated me like I was the only person there that mattered that morning. The Surgeon came to see me before the procedure and it was all carried out and I was discharged as expected. The only small fault I can find is that nothing was really explained to me on discharge - I didn't know what to expect and I hadn't been given my follow up as per the information not did I know how long the results would take but a member of staff at the hospital arranged all of that when I contacted them a week later.

I have since had my follow up appointment and everything is brilliant. Again the Surgeon has been absolutely amazing throughout.

In the event of me requiring anything in the future I wouldn't hesitate in taking the journey to Oakland's Hospital. I might be a private patient but not once did I feel like a business transaction. There really do understand the some patients may be anxious but they are all really very personable approachable and showed me genuine care.

Thank you to all the staff at Oakland's you all supported me through what was a worrying time and not once did I feel I was actually in a hospital xxxx
