The staff at the hospital are clearly under too much pressure and do not have enough resources. We were booked in for a planned C-Section, the unit was running behind, instead of being realistic about being able to do it they kept my pregnant wife waiting for 10 hours without food or water before they finally admitted it was nearly home time and we would have to come back 'next week' even though the consultant had scheduled the c-section for that day due to the risks involved should my wife go into labour past her due date. The 'next week' was fully booked so it was decided we had to go in the next day (Saturday) at 7am. We got up at 5:30 am, my wife was not allowed to eat or drink, we arrived at 7am only to be told the staff did not start till 9am, once 9am came and went we were told it would be 10am, that became 11 and finally at 12noon we were told the C-Section would not be done because they did not have any staff available as in a hospital with over 450 beds there is only one anesthtist working on the weekend. So we were sent home and were told to come back on Monday and they will try and squeeze us in. Totally appalling service, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, my wife has had hours of stressful waiting, botched blood tests and now has total lack of trust in the department. Our baby will be four days overdue which we were told by the consultant would be dangerous. Furthur more the blood tests revealed my wife blood to be dangerously thin if they delayed the operation any longer however they were trying to give her blood thinners. I cannot say there has been any positive experience in any of our dealing with this unit. The staff are trying to do the best they can but it seems like common sense and funding are in equally short supply.
