"Allergic Reaction, Doctors and Nurses very..."

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

I have a long standing history of suffering allergic reactions, although I have never found out after nearly 30 years what causes them. Last night 04/11/2015 I attended Blackpool Vic A&E as a walk in patient after developing worst than normal symptoms which included being concerned in particular of feeling as is my chest was tightening and my throat/windpipe felt as if it was narrowing. The hives were also particularly raised and aggressive. Initially I had gone to the White Gate Drive walk in Centre in Blackpool but was told that as they finished at 8pm and I had arrived quite late that I was best going to the Vic which was fine.

I must say that on arrival at 8.15pm, I found the reception staff very sympathetic as they could see I was having difficulties immediately and I was checked in quickly and treated with a lot of dignity and respect. I was seen initially by a very nice Nurse within 25 mins who did the initial consultation but it was clear that I would need to see a Doctor and get a Hydrocortizone injection to help ease the allergic reaction symptoms. I waited in a consulting area room and although it was busy, I was not left too long and got my treatment after a genuinely nice Doctor saw me and then an equally compassionate and caring Nurse administered the injection .

I am firm believer that the NHS is vital to our Country, its Staff should be paid very well and in line with their very specialist skills.

Although not the most serious of complaints for the Doctors and Nurses that they had to deal with last night, I was still very grateful for the care and compassion shown to me and would like to thank the Nurses and Doctor who saw me very much.

This was my first experience of Blackpool Vic's A&E and my experience should be seen as a credit to the NHS
