"The staff were fantastic when ..."

About: South Tyneside District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were fantastic when I was induced for the stillbirth of my son. It was a very sad time for me and the rest of my family and the treat us with the upmost respect, dignity, care, consideration and kindness. i really felt that they cared for me and my son and will hold them in my heart for this. I thank them for the photos and look at them everyday.

The room was clean, airy, comfortable and set aside from the general ward.

They gave me information (verbal and leaflets) about what would happen during the birth and after. Also about support available.

I was kept informed all through my time there of what was going on and involved in all decisions.

Although the food was not what I'd prepare at home, it was plentiful and served its purpose.

What could be improved

nothing - the staff deserve medals

Anything else?

I was touched that one of the team attended my sons funeral and although this may be common practice, it really felt that they all went the extra mile.

My mum was outside my room talking on the phone and a member of staff passed and asked her to be quiet as ther was a 'poorly woman in the room' (not knowing we were related), this showed to me that they did care and that means so much at such terrible times.
