"waiting times in a & e."

About: Hairmyres Hospital / Emergency department

(as a parent/guardian),

Arrived 10pm with injured child (minor cut) at hairmyres nhs trust hospital east kilbride scotland .. looling around count approximately 8 other "Clients" and we are told the rough waiting time is 4hrs. This is not exactly a rapid response and this is a good night apparently the wait is longer so why is the trust not employing more staff or are we to ecpect a total collapse of system during a major incident

Compared to other hospitals from extensive world travel Germany using private insurers 30 mins using generic around 1hr. Spain in major resort around 1 To 4hrs when busy ( ie fully waiting room) else typical 45 minutes. In smaller local units with only a few staff members the wait can vary from 30 minutes to 2hrs

Dear mitter81

I am sorry to hear that you experienced a significant wait with your son during your recent visit to the Emergency Department. As you will be aware nursing and medical staff work hard to ensure that all patients receive a prompt assessment. We aim to ensure that children are prioritised appropriately. It is nonetheless necessary to prioritise patients in terms of their individual need and ensure that care is directed to those who are critically unwell.

It would be useful to hear more about your experience and I would like to discuss this further. If you could call myself on 01355 584725

Thank you

Lise Axford
