"wonderful, incredible nurses and amazingly..."

i came onto aspen ward for the medical management of a missed miscarriage, and despite all my worries about it the nurses were amazing to me and i was taken care of so well. my room was perfectly clean and totally private. the nurses were happy to let my two (noisy and messy!) visitors stay with me all hours of the day and night, i had total freedom to go down the the shop and outside for fresh air as often as i liked, they offered all of us tea and food all day, and they laughed along with us as we made (sometimes quite rude!) jokes to try and make light of the situation. i don't know their names but i wish i did so i could send them flowers, because they were so sensitive and so kind to me at such a sad time, the loss of a very wanted, very loved baby. i was always afforded the utmost privacy, and there was all the supplies i needed there to deal with the bleeding, plus a pack of shower supplies and a clean and comfortable shower should i have decided to have one. they made sure i didn't have to see anything i didn't want to, and made me feel much more comfortable about several embarrassing things that are inevitable with a situation like this. they offered me any form of pain relief i wanted (not that i needed it) and talked me through everything that was going to happen. when i had a difficult moment with low blood pressure and dizziness as i was discharged they handled it beautifully and did not delay my discharge any longer than medically necessary. waiting for my discharge note and anti d shot was a little prolonged, but discharge times are not a strong point of carlisle generally- could have been a lot worse. my medication was given promptly and they never had to be reminded to do so. i cannot sing the praises of aspen ward enough. anyone who is booked in for a medical management or considering one, i urge you to try and worry a little less. i know this is such a difficult time, believe me, i know, but the lovely nurses at aspen will do their best to ease this time for you and they will provide you an excellent standard of care. i only wish i could thank them properly for how brilliant they were. even though they were working such long difficult shifts dealing with such awful problems, they were 100% positive and cheerful all the time, and totally attentive despite the long hours and multitude of other patients.

the only reason i have said i am extremely unlikely to recommend carlisle to someone else is that every other experience in every other ward with myself and everyone else i know has been utterly abysmal, but aspen ward are absolutely wonderful and i cannot fault them.

5 star service from aspen, and i'd feel a lot better going back (if god forbid i ever have to) than i did going in for the first time, now i know how great the care is

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am so sorry for your loss and can appreciate how upsetting a time this must be for you. It is incredibly brave of you to take the time to post this.

The staff try very hard to treat every patient with respect and dignity and fully appreciate how distressing things can be for the patients and their families whilst on Aspen Ward.

I have shared your comments with the Matron for Aspen who will share them with the team.

I am sorry you waited some time for your discharge letter, we are working hard to improve our discharge processes to make thing easier for patients as we do realise once patients are told they can be discharged they want to go home as soon as possible.
