"The wait at the doctors surgery and the lack of information given"

About: Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

(as a parent/guardian),

I arrived at my appointment on time at the Doctor's. I waited for 50 minutes without an apology from the G. P. When I was seen I was prescribed my medication in a rush and did not explain sufficiently about any side affects. I realised the side affects when I read the literature which contradicted what the doctor had said. I felt very let down and worried.

Dear Allibaba,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your experience of your GP surgery. I am really sorry that you had a poor experience, that you had to wait so long and that they didn’t explain the medication sufficiently enough. I can appreciate that this made you feel let down and worried.

I am sure the practice would be keen to hear your feedback if you wanted to, in the first instance the best way to do this is to contact the practice manager, I don’t know which surgery you are referring to but if you call the practice and ask to speak to the practice manager I am sure that they would be interested in hearing your feedback, you can of course write to them or email them if you would prefer.

However, if you don’t feel comfortable contacting the practice manager directly, you could contact NHS England who are the organisation responsible for commissioning (buying) and monitoring GP services nationally, they have a dedicated feedback team who would be able to help you, you can contact them using the following details:

Telephone: 0300 311 22 33

Email: england.contactus@nhs.net

Write to:

NHS England

PO Box 16738

Redditch

Although the CCG is not directly responsible for commissioning General Practice, we always take a keen interest in how patients in our area experience services that they use. Anonymous feedback such as yours is used at various meetings to discuss how experiences can be improved or what could have been done differently. Your story will be used in a similar way without identifying you.

Once again, please accept my apologies for the experience that you had and thank you for taking the time to feedback, it is through feedback such as yours that services can learn and look to improve.

Best wishes

Sam
