"Lack of Privacy"

I am completed disgusted and upset by your lack of privacy and consideration of your patients.

I attended Russell hall for an Echocardiogram,

During my treatment there was an additional member of staff that was there dong work on the computer not related to my treatment this person was repeated in and out of the room and other members of staff kept coming into the room again this was not related to my treatment.

I was lay on the bed topless during all of these interruptions, it may be normal for your staff to see part naked patients but as the person on the receiving end I can assure you this felt intrusive and degrading.

At one point the person doing my treatment locked the door to stop the intrusion however the door was knocked twice so access could be gained.

The member of staff doing my treatment did apologise to me however nothing was said to the other members of staff.

This is the 1st time I have had to attend Russells hall for treatment that involved me getting undressed and I can assure you that I do not wish to repeat the experience. I may as well have had my treatment in the waiting room considering the lack of privacy that I was given.

I feel disgusted and violated and I could not leave your hospital quick enough

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your visit to our Cardiology Department. We sincerely apologise for the lack of privacy and dignity you felt during your echocardiogram and for the upset this has caused you. The computers in the room you were seen in are used by the clinical team reviewing and reporting scan images.

To support patient privacy, we do ensure that patients are behind a screen when being treated and clinicians only use the room when they need access to urgent reports. Interruptions would only ever be by clinical staff reviewing and reporting scan images and we realise this is far from ideal. The Chief of Medicine has asked that we pass his apologies on to you and to reassure you that we are looking at an alternative location for the computers. In the immediate future, he has instructed his team to ensure the doors to the scanning room are kept locked when patients are being scanned, and we hope to find a permanent new location for the reporting computers very soon. This area will also be reviewed on our new quality and safety inspections to ensure privacy and dignity is being respected.
