"I was admitted by ambulance to ..."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted by ambulance to Accident and Emergency and subsequently had an appointment with a Consultant. I could not speak more highly of all the staff that helped me including the paramedics who brought me to the hospital, nurse and doctor in A&E, Dr, staff involved in follow up tests i.e. ECG, Electro Cardiogram and Chest X-ray and admin staff. I received a fantastic service and whilst my health issue remains unresolved it is so reassuring to know that I am in such good hands. Thank you to you all.

What could be improved

The only negative in my whole 'North Tyneside Hospital Experience' was when I opened the letter regarding my follow up appointment and read that I had been referred to "Elderley Medicine". As a physically and mentally active 54 year old it did nothing for my self esteem and personal well being to be identified as "Elderley". Even if I was 30 or 40 years older, I would prefer a referral to a Department with a more tactful name and would urge you to consider a more appropriate (and accurate) title.

Anything else?

No.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS choices website regarding the care afforded to you at North Tyneside General Hospital. It was very kind of you to write and complement the staff.

With regard to your comment about the title of the service, I would agree that this definition is not the most appropriate, however, unfortunately we are constrained by National Service Definitions, but we are investigating this issue to ascertain if we can find a more appropriate service definition.
