I chose private health care as my surgery was major and I did not want to be on a ward.
I also wanted to feel able to ask for help without feeling stressed.
Unfortunately this was not the case I was left feeling lonely and nurses attitude to me ringing the bell made me reluctant.
On the 4th day I was in, I woke sweaty, my hair needed washing and I was bleeding, I felt unclean and in a lot of pain.
I was sobbing in pain, the nurse must have heard me as I was brought more pain killers, I asked if they could lift the headrest to my bed, they replied there's a hand held here, however that did not work.
The light switches were too far behind my head for me to stretch for them and things were generally out if reach.
I found myself trying to get to the bathroom unaided rather than ring my bell
