What I liked
In general Nursing staff on Ward 6 were very friendly, always had a smile, always cracking a joke, that made the stay more pleasureable.
I did like the idea of the bed side TV, telphone units, so you could watch what you wanted and when.
What could be improved
(1) It was my observation that there seemed to be a serious lack of communication between the nursing staff and doctors, and other departments, I was admitted to the hospital and was nil by mouth as was to be assessed next morning for surgery, the following morning I was assessed, and it was decided that a scan would be done, however this was not arranged and in the mean time i was to be nil by mouth, when I questioned if I was to have the scan, nurses didn`t seem to know, I asked one nurse and she didn`t seem to be bothered I got a responce of you might get it tommorow there again who knows, and this time I was nill by mouth, I was very hungery in total I went 3 days without food and water (drink), the following morning I was examined by the consultant and since I had made some recovery he let me go home said not to bother with scan, whilst waiting for discharge I had someone come to take a blood sample, and a nurse to say that the scan was arranged, and why was I dressed.
(2) Although I was nil by mouth the food looked and smelled awful, maybe have been a blessing.
(3) As previous comments I never had the same nurse looking after me twice, and so had a lack of understanding, what was going to happen and also issues with my medication that I was previously on, I had to declare my medication to nearly all of them, it finely got sorted when I was to be discharged 2 nights later.
(4) Although a good idea bedside tv, the cost of £3.50 per 24 hours what very excessive, and £7.00 for 3 days who knows how long they are going to stay for, and cards are non refundable, although internet access was available it would have be great if you could have linked laptops to the units by data connection that way people who would like to work have the facility to send files by e-mail.
Anything else?
Although there was issues of communication, I could not fault the nursing staff towards their attitudes, (with the execption of one) keep up the good work.
