"Cataract surgery"

About: Montagu Hospital

My surgery was carried out on the 21st of October. I arrived at the ward at 0730 full of nerves and concern for what was going to happen !

I was registered in and sent to the waiting room with nerves a jangling and shortly after that i was taken to the ward and given a bed space. The nurse explained the procedure fully so i now knew what was happening and when.

At regular intervals i got an eyeful of drops, so many i lost count, and then the dreaded moment...please get into this 'nighty' your are on next.

I was wheeled down to surgery and laid on a trolley and yes, more drops and was told what to expect. By this time i was a nervous wreck! But , then i was wheeled into the surery and more drops and covers and the surgeons told me what was next and off they went.

The actual operation was wierd to say the least but no pain just confusion with the lights and almost continual water washing through my eye....and then done.

i was then taken back to the ward and given a lovely cup of tea and a biscuit, I was so relieved to get past the op that i felt so emotional i was ready to weep! The nurses get coming back and forth to make sure i was ok, they were brilliant. And then i was told i could go home and a nurse came and went over the things i needed to know and do over the next week or so. They had booked an appointment for my check uo and i got yet more eye drops.

Here i am 3 days later and all goes well. The vision in my right eye is unbelievable ! It has improved day by day as explained.

My heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Rockingham Day Centre for the wonderful thoughtful care that they all provide at what is a difficult time for people. I cannot praise them enough. I will be back for my other eye to be done later this year and have no fear worries about going back to Rockingham.

Fantastic. Thankyou.
