"Outpatient appointment repeatedly cancelled"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a parent/guardian),

We have been waiting months for an outpatient appointment for my son which is repeatedly cancelled without reason and re-scheduled further in the future without consultation - usually to days we cannot do due to childcare issues.

It has taken so long to get this appointment scheduled the clinic days have now changed from ones we could do to ones we now cannot make easily at all.

Why do you schedule someone in for an appointment, only to cancel it repeatedly? It cannot be short term issues such as illness - you are cancelling a couple of weeks in advance. It is no wonder you get a bad press on your service: it is actually bad.

Not happy at all.

Thank you for taking the time to comment about the service provided for your son.

I am very sorry to learn of the repeated cancellations and difficulties you have had in obtaining further suitable outpatient appointments.

There may be a number of reasons why an appointment needs to be cancelled, and this is not something that the Trust does lightly as we are aware of the upset and difficulties caused by cancellations. If you would like us to look into the particular circumstances regarding your son's care, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Liaison and Advice Service (PALS) on 01223 216756 or email pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk.
