"Fantastic care for my appendectomy"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

My fiancee took me to A&E at 02.30 the other morning as severe abdominal pain woke me up. I was seen very quickly in Triage and then taken to a bed in the Minors unit where a lovely nurse put me on IV fluids, morphine, anti-sickness etc and kept coming to check on me and see how the pain was.

I was seen by a few doctors, sent to x ray then put on Short Stay until a surgeon became available to see me. My partner was allowed to stay by myside the whole time which made 100% difference as I didn't feel as scared or alone. The staff were amazing to both of us the whole time I was there as well as all of the surgical staff who came to see me.

I was transferred to theatres to have my appendix out and a member of staff was doing the usual checks on me and realised I didn't have any wrist bands on (I thought it was a bit strange) so Short Stay had to go and reprint them before I could get taken in to the anesthetic room. The whole time I was in theatre and recovery, nobody was updating my fiancee who was standing outside worrying for hours (even though she asked what was happening) until 20 mins before I woke up where a nurse did go and update her.

I was transferred to Rowan Ward for the night to recover where my fiancee was able to stay in the chair as we had a side room and the staff were absolutely amazing! We had an amazing nurse who we cannot fault in the slightest, they were so kind and caring and made us both feel very reassured.

Apart from my fiancee not being informed on what was happening, we both had absolutely no faults and would definitely take our friends and family here if they needed treatment!

I am so happy with the care I received, it made the whole experience as nice as it can be considering the circumstance! I am recovering with very clean incisions...bit sore but to be expected!

We do apologise that your your Fiancee was not updated regularly on your progress, but were glad to read that you still found the hospital and our staff amazing.
