"The blatant waste of money"

The hospital has no patients over night although it is recognised that occasionally staff may require access after the closure time.

The car park has something like 120 posts with lights attached that are switched on during darkness including weekends and public holidays.

Yet there is no one in there.

I have been trying to persuade the authorities to react to my comments, but essentially nobody cares.

The only person I have yet to contact is the Man in the Moon.

I am sure I would have got more sense out of him.

I have had the Estates Manager from Aldershot involved.

The local Manager - waste of time.

The local Fareham Councillor who has a watching brief over the NHS - waste of time.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees - waste of time.

The previous MP - replied by letter but no result.

I have even sent a letter to the current Secretary of State for Health - response from their department is that there is nothing they can do about it.

At the entrance to the car park is a large notice "The barrier is brought down at 1800 and lifted at 0730.

It is also down over weekends and public holidays. ( I am not sure of the precise times.)

If this is the case, then why is the car park flood lit?

I contacted the relevant authority under the FOI Act requesting details of the cost of keeping these lights on. I did receive a response stating that it was not possible to break the costs down in details, but in February the costs for lighting was £3,200.

Hence my statement that the hospital has a blatant talent for wasting money.

Taking account of how long the unit has been open and since day 1 I have been raising this issue, how many hip operations would this have funded?

It really bugs me driving past the site at night in the winter, and it is even worse in the summer when the sun is shining, to find the whole site flood lit.

Nobody cares!
