"Try somewhere else if you can"

About: Lister Hospital

My first experience was in getting an appointment. I received the letter with a date but sadly I was going to be abroad, so I rang that day and asked for a new appointment. I was given one for a month later. So i was surprised when I arrived back in the UK and had a letter remonstrating that I had missed the appointment that I had cancelled. I rang and it turns out they had cancelled the wrong appointment and had cancelled the new one I had asked for. No letter of apology was sent to me, even though they couldn't wait to send me a letter telling me off when they thought it was my fault.

Parking is horrendous. I wondered why people were parking outside the hospital rather than inside. Figured it was just to avoid the high price inside. It is expensive but it's not the main reason, the main parking is in a multistorey car park , which wasn't exactly full but was so tight going up and down the ramps. It must have been built in the 30's when vehicles were much smaller. If you have a mid sized car or above don't park there. It's testament to the numerous scrape marks on every ramp. But they save the best till last. They have placed a parking space just at the final exit ramp I dare you to navigate it successfully.

The hospital is large and has signs to direct you to the area you need to go but it all looks pretty tired with faint markings on the floors of old directions they had in the past.

It has a costa and a whsmiths. The reception staff member was dismissive when I spoke to them. Fill this in then this one when you leave was pretty much the sum total of my experience. The nurse that saw me was nice. Very pleasant and a change from the receptionist. Went ok. I got in early to see the doctor. They were again nice but unfortunately after my discussion with them I am no further forward. No treatment just the same tests that I have had for the past 5 years. It was pretty pointless in me attending. It would be much easier if they had just reviewed my notes, obtained the results of all the previous tests then contacted me with an appointment. Rather than wasting my time and their plus charging me £4 in parking plus the damage to my car. Tip I would give is park outside the hospital if you can and if your dealing with doctors make sure you get them to put it in writing. Would I recommend this hospital. No

We're really sorry that you found our services such a disappointment - we know that our rheumatology team would welcome discussing with you why this was so and, more importantly, have a discussion with you about next steps.

It would also allow them to address the issue of the clinic receptionist - it shows what a first impression can do.

If you would like us to set this opportunity up for you, all you need do is email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net and we'll take it from there for you.

On the car parking front, it may interest you to now that the number of scrapes and bumps - which the car park's owner's Vinci monitor very closely - are below average for a multi-storey car park.

It allows our patients to park out of the elements, in a secure and well-lit environment that also has direct lift access from every floor taking you in to the hospital.

You also pay on exit for the time you use, rather than a pay and display system with patients guessing how long they will need. Various payment options exist, with help on hand from the car parking office and security on site 24 hours a day (in addition to the CCTV system).
