"Avoid the phlebotomy department - 2hr wait!"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

I've been unfortunate enough to come to the phlebotomy department on several occasions for blood tests. Without exception there has has been a wait of over an hour, sometimes two. Every seat in the waiting area is taken, with patients routinely standing against walls and sitting on floors.

On the last occasion when I was finally seen, the nurse didn't apologise for the wait, and had propped open a door with an full sharps bin.

I find it hard to believe how these huge delays are just accepted by the hospital, with no sign of any attempt to improve them.
