"Cellulitis in foot."

About: The Great Western Hospital

I came via A and E.I was in pain I had my own strong prescription painkillers but wasn't taking away the pain and was offered parecetemal.I came in at 11.30 and after going to various departments and ending up where I started I was finally put onto a ward.I got settled in bed then around midnight was moved to another ward.I spent 7 nights there and discharged around 11 am.I had to leave my bed as it was needed which was not a problem as I went to the discharge lounge after my lunch around 1 ish.The discharge room was OK nurse gave us coffee and was then waiting for my tablets.we waited until 4 .15 when it closed. The nurse was so apologetic for the wait.I was then wheeled to the canteen where I sat until 6 then I went back to the ward again.Eventually my medication arrived along with 2 others who was also waiting around 7-45.I eventually left the ward to go home. This I believe is quite common. This needs to be improved. Most nursing staff and doctors and vollenteers etc were very good but I could clearly see they were understaffed and lack of equipment was evident. If you needed anything in a hurry this never happened. The nursing team worked hard in a demanding conditions but communication between staff was not always clear when the shift change came.My problem never really went away after being discharged with antibiotics. I returned by my GP to ambulatory ward for most of Fri Mon and Tues after a MRI and went home with antibiotics. In my opinion I was sent home too early as infection didn't

Completely go.I must say the ambulatory DPT was very good offering lunch and drinks. The staff were polite and helpful.A big thank you to GWH and Neptune ward where I stayed and the physios. There was a lack of pillows so I had to bring my own.Generally my visit was OK but there is room for improvement.

Hopefully I am on the mend .The canteen is very good and hospital looked very clean and easy to get around.Thankyou very much
