"Awful care after C section"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I had an elective C section at Hull Women and Children's in July 2015 due to baby being breech. The care of the midwifes whilst having the C-section and the theatre staff was fantastic but then as soon as I was moved onto the Maple ward my care was awful.

I was moved onto the ward at 7pm, I had had only 2 slices of toast to eat all day and was not offered any food. Someone came and left a jug of water and some painkillers next to my bed whilst my family were visiting but did not introduce themself at all. I was fitted with a catheter during my op as i was immobile, this was about 12 noon. It got to 5.30am the next day and i had to ring my buzzer because nobody had been to check on me and my catheter bag had started to back up on itself as it was so full.

When a (student) midwife finally introduced themself at around 8.30 am the following day (being on the ward 13 hours) i finally got something to eat. The student midwife kindly helped remove my catheter and help me to clean up as my pad/mesh knickers had not been changed for 18 hours post op despite asking for assistance of midwives - my partner tried to help but was worried to hurt me after major op.

I am so disgusted and disappointed with my care. I also had feeding problems with my child, not once did anybody observe my latch before i went home after 48 hours; only a student midwife watched me for a few seconds and i expressed concerns as baby only feeding for 5 minutes every 4 hours and i was assured it was fine; needless to say we returned to hospital due to 15% weight loss of my baby 5 days later. if i can afford to go private next time I have a baby I will.
