"Being a patient in ward 15"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Dermatology

(as the patient),

My overall experience has been very positive in ward 15, with the assistance of helpful nursing staff who are always there to assist and offer support and advise. Staff are flexible in their approach although it is evident that the additional non nursing tasks have a major impact on the nursing tasks which nurses should be able to prioritise to the detriment of patients, This is mainly domestic duties, serving meals etc. ]

Given the nature of dermatology skin care, dietary meals could be more nutritional and fresh. There could also be more beds for the increasing needs of psoriasis sufferers to enable inadequate time for patients to fully recuperate. The need for additional beds is evidenced by the lengthy waiting time I had waiting to get seen despite the severity of my condition there was a 3 month wait before I got admiited for inpatient treatment.

Dear Sharon 1

Many thanks for taking the time to post your views on patient opinion. I am delighted that you found the nursing staff to be helpful and that they were able to offer advice and support to you. I will certainly feed this back to Senior Charge Nurse Dobbin and her staff.

Nursing staff have many roles and responsibilities, however a key priority in relation to patients is nutritional care. Nursing staff are responsible for ensuring all patients receive the correct meal in accordance with their clinical treatment plans. I note your comments in relation to food being more nutritional and fresh and will discuss your comments with the catering department.

Cleanliness within our wards is paramount and therefore nursing staff alongside domestic staff have responsibility in maintaining the high standards of cleanliness within the clinical area and this should not impact on the delivery of care to patients.

It is difficult to comment on the time taken for your admission however I would be happy to look into this for you if you wish to contact me direct at Wishaw Hospital on 01698 366551.

Thank you again for taking the time to give us your feedback.
