"Homerton ANC/MLU care - not great first..."

About: Homerton University Hospital

Supposed to see the Registrar at 20 week scan as recommended by my midwife to discuss some medications i had been taking throughout my pregnancy but after waiting an hour in the ANC was seen by a midwife instead as apparently the Registrar didn't think seeing me was necessary (the ANC was clearly overrun - there were almost no seats left in the rather large waiting room). At my next routine midwife appt (community) the replacement midwife was late and very flustered - they tried to take blood from me twice (and used the same needle to do so, resting the same needle from the first attempt on the (outside of the) syringe packet while preparing her 2nd attempt) - failed both times to draw blood so I refused to have my bloods taken altogether. They also did not sign my notes so there is no official record of them seeing me nor can I make an official complaint about them. This lack of skill and hygiene in doing a routine thing like taking bloods made me question what the midwives on the unit would be like during birth.

I was happy with my original midwife but having not seen this midwife since the first booking appt makes me worried about the other random midwives i may come across when the actual birth arrives - so reliability and consistency of the MLU at Homerton is my main concern.

I did want to note however that i had a miscarriage last year and visited Homerton's EPAU - the staff and doctors there were fantastic (with the exception of one rude sonographer who scolded me for making them run late as I needed to visit the bathroom before the appt began due to sudden heavy bleeding). If i could elect to be taken care of by Homerton EPAU I'd do so without hesitation, but the MLU in Homerton has left me rather disappointed and worried especially given the recent investigation into the maternity services there (which i was willing to overlook but after my last few appointments has renewed my anxiety about the hospital).
