What I liked
I was very ill and had major surgery and although it was an awfull experience the Nurses and the Doctors/Consultants helped to make it as comfortable and bearable an experience as possible. Without exception every member of staff was amazing. Not every requirement was met immediately due to the ammount of work each nurse seemed to have on, but serious issues were prioritised and I was in awe of the sheer range of knowledge and skills held by the staff on Ward One. It made me realise how unimportant my job was and I will always be grateful for the care I recieved.
What could be improved
There seems to be a communication problem between the Doctors/Consultants and the Nurses. Some things are decided and the nurses on the ward don't get told or have the information. This is reasonably uncommon but it does happen. It is nothing to do with any individual and seems to be more about a problem with a system or structure. Due to this I felt I had to be quite vigilant at times to make sure certain things were known or got done. However I feel that no responsibilty for this should be placed on any individual memeber of staff.
Anything else?
Overall I am massively impressed with MDGH. I know that you read about problems with NHS hospitals but I would be amazed if you could find any private hospital with staff this diligent, dedicated and personable. It may be the case that I am just lucky to live near such a good hospital and that across the UK others don't get the same treatment. If so then I do feel lucky.
