"My father in law (91) had pneumonia ..."

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My father in law (91) had pneumonia and died at the hospital. We were consulted about his care and options, which were explained very clearly nad in non-technical language. We had unlimited access and the staff were unfailingly kind, patient, gentle, loving and considerate. They obviously loved their work and it showed.

What could be improved

Only that whatever was working there could be "bottled" and passed on to any other areas of the NHS that don't quite meet these extraordinarily high standards.

Anything else?

My mother-in-law also died at the same hospital in March 2008. Her bowel had died. We and she had the same quality of experience. I remember particularly the sister saying "If you want to say anything to Mum, say it now, as she will become unresposive on the morphine pain relief" This was very thoughtful and sensitive.
