"caring staff and care"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I recently found myself going to Cramlington hospital in the early hours of the morning.

From seeing the receptionist to seeing the Triage nurse took no more than 15 minutes. I am aware that there were not many other patients waiting in reception, so the waiting time would change depending on patients waiting. The male nurse I saw was very caring, considerate and had an amusing side to him. He took all my information and then went to see if there was a room available. Again I appreciate that depending on the amount of people waiting the time can vary.. Once in the room and gowned he put a tap in my arm and started taking bloods , blood counts ECG etc . He went away and came back with pain relief for the drip and also an anti sickness drug also put through the drip.He informed me that the bloods would be back in about an hour just in time for the doctor to see me. He asked me if I was comfortable and warm enough. From that time to seeing the doctor nurses would keep coming and taking me blood pressure and temperature. I was then seen by the doctor and he informed me of the blood results. He said that they needed to put me on a fluid drip and would keep me in for a couple of days for observation. My husband commented that we just thought they would give me some medication and send me home; at this the doctor said he would have a word with someone . He came back and said that another alternative was to keep me in for a short stay in the assessment unit of a few hours to see how I responded to the fluids and reassess me again later. This he did, and after having further anti sickness put through drip he said that it was up to me that if I really wanted to go home he would give me some anti sickness and pain relief medication for home use. He said that if I deteriorated again that I should just return to hospital and they would admit me. Up to now I am managing at home on the medication given. The hospital is relatively new and I am sure that some people would find fault. I can only speak from my personal experience. All the areas that I saw and stayed in were spotless. All the staff that I came in contact with were kind and caring and I would like to say a special thanks to the triage nurse that I had, thank you for showing you cared about your job.Thank you to all the staff. People are always ready to leave negative feedback. I am commenting on my own personal experience and that was a positive experience which is why I want to share it. Up to now I am managing at home with the medication given.

Dear Anne,

Many thanks for these thoughtful observations and for your lovely feedback about how caring our staff are. I will make sure it is passed on with pride to the team concerned.

Thank you also for noticing how hard our domestic staff work to ensure the hospital remains spotless. It is an essential part of patient safety and your review gives us the opportunity to acknowledge their contribution to this.

I am glad you are managing well at home but please do come back to us if there's anything you need.

Best wishes,

Annie
