"Ward F4 Stroke Rehab Unit. Exemplary ..."

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Ward F4 Stroke Rehab Unit.

Exemplary nursing care for my elderly father after a minor stroke, and my general observation of the care given to other (more seriously ill ) patients was similarly excellent.

The nursing staff and physiotherapy staff on this ward are a credit to the hospital.

I cannot fault any aspect of the care given to my father on his stay in this ward.

What could be improved

My father was admiited after referal from a locum call-out doctor, having being diagnosed with a stroke, being unable to walk.

He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was, what I can only described as, 'dumped' in A&E.

After a 2 and a half hour wait he was eventually seen by a Triage doctor and placed in the 'Admissions Ward' (?) in a cubicle with no bulb in the lamp. The nurses diod not appear to care when they were told about the absence of a light. A junior doctor arrived at 2 am and conducted a creditably thorough examination, despite the absence of light.

I consider the delay in my father being examined by a doctor upon entry to A&E to be TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY.

There appears to be something seriously wrong with the processes in the A&E Dept.

Anything else?

In the 5 weeks in which my father was in hospital it cost me £70 in parking fees.

The parking arrangements and the extortionate fees for visitors of long-stay in-patients are disgusting. I suspect this a million pound money-maker for the hospital so I don't expect any notice to be taken of this comment.

Many thanks for your email, we are sorry to hear about your father's recent treatment at the hospital we will make sure that your observations are passed on to the Accident and Emergency Managers. We do hope that your father or any other members of your family have to come into hospital for a lengthy time but in that event please contact a member of the security who will advise on 'frequent visitors' tickets which are available.

Kind regards
