"Disgusted"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

After a call from school that my daughter had her hand jammed in a heavy fire door and an extremely swollen mishapen finger I took her straight there. After twenty minutes I asked receptionist if my daughter was in the right place or should she be in cramlington I was dismissed with a 'it's only a finger and your in the right place' my daughter was in agony, I spotted a poster at reception saying if you require pain relief ask so I asked if she could get pain relief I was told ' you have to wait for a nurse ' half an hour later still nothing , i would of waited all day for her finger to be seen to as long as she had pain relief more time passed so I asked again to be told to wait ,absolutely disgusting, fear this would set off other medical conditions as well as being in obvious pain I took her home for pain relief and inhaler and took her to cramlington. Utterly disgusted that receptionists are making decisions about people's health , and not even asking the same questions to people when they come in. Not giving a child clearly in pain some relief is disgusting I will certainly never use this service again ever!

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your review and for sharing your story with us. Sorry to hear about your daughter's accident and the pain she experienced after jamming her finger in a fire door. I can understand why this upset you - it is never easy to witness our children in distress is it ?

Our urgent care centre at North Tyneside is absolutely designed to deal with accidents of this nature including treating minor fractures or broken bones - so if you need help but it's not a 999 emergency then this is the right place to go.

The Northumbria Specialist Emergency care hospital is designed with a different level of care in mind, specifically for patients with serious or life threatening medical or surgical emergencies.

I am sorry if the wait and absence of pain relief at North Tyneside caused you to doubt your original decision.

I am also sorry we didn't do more to sympathetically explain the difference and give you the confidence that you needed to know that your daughter was in the right place to get the care she needed.

I will ensure that your review is shared with the team - thanks again for taking the time to bring it to our attention.

Kind regards,

Annie
