"terrible care from neurologist"

Whilst I understand that the department is very busy and understaffed, i feel that the standard of care that I have received from my consultant has been particularly shoddy.

As a patient with MS who was (in his opinion) transitioning from RRMS to SPMS 2 years ago, I want to prolong my quality of life so that I am able to continue working as long as possible.

Clearly, in order to do this, I need to consult with my consultant when something goes awry with my medications or conditions.

What I have experienced however is contrary to this, I have not seen my consultant for 12 months, though I did have an appointment booked for August this year, the hospital cancelled it and said they would be in touch with another (this was 7 months ago - heard nothing).

When I phone/text or email my doctor regarding medications or relapses, he does not get back to me at all, and when I get my meds from the nurse at the hospital, she orders 1 month at a time despite knowing that she will sometimes be away when the month runs out leaving me with no meds for 2 weeks, despite the fact that they can easily be put on a homecare delivery system.

When I had a serious relapse earlier this year, another neurologist ordered an MRI and then I still had to ask for the results 5 months later - unacceptable.

In short, if a doctor is not able to deliver a basic standard of care which involves seeing their pts once annually, and actually returning calls/contacting them when they have issues or are relapsing, perhaps the doctor is too busy or should not be practicing.
